Are you searching for a solution for hair loss?

A treatment that promotes healing in injured joints may help restore your lost hair.

Approximately 50 million American men and 30 million women have male/female-pattern baldness. It can begin early in life, but is very common after the age of 50; nearly half of all men experience noticeable hair loss.

Platelet-Rich Plasma is a proven and non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who desire stimulation of hair growth.

Traditional Solutions & Treatments

Currently, there are two FDA-approved medications for treating hair loss: Finasteride and Minoxidil.

  • The medication must be taken daily and the results are inconsistent.

  • Each drug has the potential for side effects:

    • Minoxidil may cause dryness and itching on the scalp and weight gain.

    • Finasteride may cause sexual dysfunction in men.

Hair transplantation is an option, but it requires incisions in the scalp and a longer recovery time.

  • A transplant is costly and can range between $4,000-$15,000.  A risk of hair transplant includes infection and can permanently damage skin.

What is PRP Hair Treatment & How Does it Work?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets are cells in our body that are integral to the natural tissue and wound healing process. PRP is filled with numerous growth factors, proteins, and activating substances. This part of the blood is rich in tissue healing and stimulating factors that when concentrated, can be used as therapeutic interventions in medicine.  PRP can stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth.

A number of scientifically-based articles show the efficacy of PRP in increasing hair count, hair thickness, and the growth phase of the hair cycle.

  • In a 2014 study, researchers in India focused on men with male-pattern baldness who used both approved medications, but saw little change in their hair growth.

  • After four PRP treatments, they had approximately 30 percent more growth in thinning areas.

  • A 2017 study based in Italy found male patients had increased hair and density in areas where doctors used PRP therapy.

How Does it Work?

The PRP Hair Treatment Process

The process is simple, natural, and non-surgical.

  1. Numbing cream is applied topically.

  2. Blood is drawn from the arm with a simple lab draw.

  3. The blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun.

    • West Side Wellness has a dedicated centrifuge machine that is specifically made to obtain higher concentrations of platelets to provide maximal results.

  4. Growth factors in PRP are extracted from the blood that has been centrifuged.

Platelets from that blood (platelet rich plasma, or PRP), are activated to release growth factors that normally heal damaged tissue, increase collagen, and add new blood flow.

  5.  The growth factors are injected back into the patient's scalp using a very small needle and a micro needling device is used to massage the area.  This stimulates the hair follicles and allows greater penetration of the PRP.

  • These growth factors activate stem cells present in the skin and new younger tissue is generated.

  • PRP has NEVER been associated with serious effects when prepared using FDA approved equipment.

  • Only go to providers that use FDA kits!!

When can I expect results?

New hair growth can be seen as early as two months, but is typically evident between four to eight months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment.

Treatment is given once a month for 3 months then 6 months later.

To date, results have been maintained without additional injections for up two years in many patients.

There are virtually no side effects from PRP, except for a mild feeling of pressure at the injection site.
